    Aleksandra Laskova

I’m Aleksandra, a National Art Academy graduate. I have passion for both art and IT. My last exhibition opening was last week, and I am currently a Technical Support Engineer at one of the prestigious enterprise projects at Sutherland. In the project we support an information management company, providing solutions for backup and recovery, business continuity, software-defined storage and information governance. I speak English, German and Spanish.

  1.  Why did you decide to apply for the Sutherland Technical Academy?

I applied because learning new skills and developing in new fields is vital for me. Inspiration accumulated through exploring new things and expanding my understanding is valuable for my afterhours activities. Also, being able to both embark on a new career path and be financially independent while doing so was a great opportunity for an effortless upskilling.

  1. Tell us about the topics you covered during those 5 weeks. What technologies did you study?

We covered the basics: OSI model, Networking, Storage, Security, Windows Server, Exchange, SQL and more.

  1. What is the most important thing that you learned at the Academy?

The methods and principles behind an enterprise environment – Administration 101.

  1. What was the biggest challenge that you faced?

Catching up with terminology and the basic concepts in the beginning was a challenge for me. It took me some extra effort to get in the loop. From then on it has been smooth sailing.

  1. What was the teaching methodology that your trainer used?

Educational videos, practical exercises, lecturing and we the students presenting what we’ve learned.

  1. What was the atmosphere?

The atmosphere was friendly and optimistic. We were encouraged to work as a team since the very beginning.

  1. Describe a typical day at the academy.

We started the day with a quick recap and discussed what is to be done for the day. Then, we went through some educational videos. And of course, we had a lab exercise or a presentation in the afternoon.

  1. How do you feel now as part of the Enterprise team of Sutherland?

I feel awesome! There is a completely different feel and pace to the job now. For the most part it is problem solving. We work in a relaxed environment and striving to help your teammates and develop your skills are greatly encouraged.

  1. Why would you recommend the Sutherland Tech Academy to your friends and colleagues?

I was willing to share my experience to encourage more girls to consider this opportunity. More women in Tech! There is no reason for women to shy away from such great opportunities as the field is way more inclusive than we’ve grown to believe. If an art graduate can do it, you can too!
